Inspired by Bulbs! Educational Grant Opportunity

Ten Grants Offered for $250 Worth of Bulbs - Application deadline is July 3, 2009
Send us a great idea and, if selected, we’ll send you a bunch of spring flowering bulbs for your project. Submit a description of a project that features a planting effort with children or youth, at a school or other organization and you may be one of 10 to receive a grant of $250 in bulbs. (That’s a lot of bulbs!)
We seek an emphasis on:
- Children and youth involvement in the planning and decision-making process.
- Creative educational projects with defined goals.
- Projects exploring educational subjects appropriate to the group. Educational scenarios can be focused on science, math, nature, art, history, group dynamics, civics, sequencing, gardening, or other. (i.e., while “beautification” is always desirable, it is not the ultimate goal here.)
- Use of bulbs as a way of engaging young people in nature and natural settings.
If your project is chosen and you receive a grant for $250 worth of flower bulbs, we will require that you provide:
- Digital images of the educational process, including planting, and children/youth with flowers in bloom.
- Authorizations by any recognizable participants for use of their image(s) online at The Bulb Project. Download permission form (.pdf file).
Application deadline is July 3, 2009. A judging panel will determine winning entries and notify winning entrants by July 30. Be sure to read the grant terms.
We encourage applicants to visit The Bulb Project website for activity ideas and to contribute to the 'Share ideas' section of the website. (See Share your news and ideas! for directions on how you can join in.) We welcome digital photos and examples of your own flower bulb or gardening projects that use gardening or plants to teach and inspire young people, whether indoors or outdoors as part of your application.
2009 Grant Application Submission Instructions:
Download and enter your information in the Application Form (Word .doc). Save it, and then email it as an attachment to [grants@thebulbproject.org] with “Inspired by Bulbs” in the subject line. Within one week, you will receive an email confirmation indicating that your application was successfully received. We are not accepting hard copy applications.
